Futures don't happen by chance.
Shaping them requires competencies.

I help people and organizations explore possible futures, make robust strategic decisions, and build lasting futures competencies.

Explore futures.
Widen the space of possibility.
Build the capacity to act.

For me, futures research is not about prediction. It is the systematic work with uncertainty – evidence-based, creative, and strategically actionable.

Strategic options require a holistic perspective: organizations and people are embedded in larger systems – ecological, social, economic, and political. That is why I consistently take their interdependencies into account. Drawing on academic depth and many years of strategy experience, I translate images of the future into clear options and concrete action.

01

Strategic Foresight & Advisory

Navigating Uncertainty

I support strategy and leadership teams in recognizing change early, exploring alternative trajectories, and preparing robust decisions. Empathy-Based Strategy helps teams take shared ownership of these decisions and implement them effectively.

Futures Literacy & Learning

Futures Literacy That Works in Practice

In interactive learning formats, leaders, employees, and teams develop the ability to surface their own assumptions, think in multiple futures, and derive new options for action today.

Measurement & Impact

Futures Literacy Index

The Futures Literacy Index helps organizations make futures competencies more tangible. It captures different competence dimensions that contribute to becoming aware of one's own assumptions, anticipating possible futures, widening the space for action, and actively shaping futures. Together, they form the foundation for dealing more resiliently with uncertainty.

02

Strategy & Implementation

Empathy-Based Strategy

Why are sustainability decisions often not implemented consistently, or only where compliance requires it? My hypothesis: when emotion and empathy are deliberately integrated into decision-making, decisions become far more firmly anchored. Initial exploratory findings point to greater trust, ownership, and concrete implementation pathways.

03

AI & Futures

AI-Supported Futures Research

I investigate how AI can support work with futures, for example in horizon scanning, scenario development, or learning processes, and where human judgment remains indispensable.

04

Futures in Practice

No Time for the Future?

We often hear there is no time to think about the future because today's problems come first. Sustainability faces the same argument. Yet working with futures creates strategic advantages today: those who use it actively shape situations instead of passively accepting them.

Science.
Strategy.
Impact.

I am Professor of Strategic Management at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin) and have been working with futures for more than 15 years, across industry, policy, consulting, and academia.

My practical experience ranges from futures research and corporate strategy in a large corporate setting to systemic consulting and policy advisory work. I bring a technology background along with expertise in innovation management, digitalization, and urban mobility. Today, I combine research, teaching, and advisory work with a systemic perspective and a clear aim: ensuring that work on futures and sustainability makes a difference in practice.
